would save driving time and streamline traffic, especially for
trucks.

Reading the account of the “flyover” to be built as part of Highway 152/156 interchange awakens one of my old “dreams” of a highway across the Bolsa flats. This dream of a freeway that would make common sense has been on my mind for decades. It would save driving time and streamline traffic, especially for trucks.
The freeway would consist of approximately 11 miles of four-lane freeway between a new interchange south of sargents on Highway 101 and the 152/156 interchange.
This freeway would handle 156, 129 and 152 traffic to the flyover on Pacheco Pass. I recently confirmed my belief that this would shave miles off the current routes by traveling it in the car with my son, Bill, who was a surveyor party chief for more than 30 years in this area. Bill picked me up in his car, and we drove 11.2 miles from 10th Street and U.S. 101 in Gilroy to the interchange of highways 152 and 156. We watched the traffic for awhile. Then we drove Highway 156 towards Hollister as follows:
2.4 miles to the first stoplight at Fairview Road then
2.0 miles to the second stoplight at San Felipe Road then
1.8 miles to the third stoplight at Highway 25 then
3.2 miles to the fourth stoplight at 4th Street in Hollister then
.7 miles to the fifth stoplight at Union Road then
4.1 miles to the sixth stoplight at San Juan Bautista then
3.0 miles to the Highway 156/U.S. 101 interchange
= 17.2 miles grand total of stop-and-go
driving.
Oh for my dream.
