Thomas R. Mangano passed away in San Jose Monday following a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Angie Mangano of Gilroy; his children and their spouses, Beth and Ted Strotman of Gilroy, Mary and Vince Costello of Gilroy and his daughter-in-law Vivian Mangano of Gilroy. He was preceded in death by his son, Pasquale Mangano.
Mangano also is survived by his grandchildren and spouses, Susan and Ted Yates, Elizabeth Strotman, Lynette and Bill Breyton, Keith Costello, Tommy Costello, Christopher Costello, Toni Ann Mangano, Michael Mangano, Gina and Mark Pimentel, his great grandchildren, Ted and Evan Yates, Andrew, Grant and Danielle Breyton, Kayla and Isabella Costello, Thomas Mangano, and Janae and Mark Pimentel. He is the brother of Annie (Steve) Martin of Atwater, Mary Ginelli of Watsonville and the late, Elizabeth Bigone, Sam Mangano and Bat Mangano.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews and his brother-in-laws Tommy Montello of San Jose and Bill Montello of Nipomo.
Tom was born in Sicily and moved to the United States at the age of two. He settled in Gilroy 91 years ago and took care of the family’s orchards on Roop Road and Murray Avenue in Gilroy. He had a 60-year careerin Orchards and Filice and Perrelli Cannery, C.P.C., and California Canners and Growers. After retirement he worked at home with his own orchard and garden. He loved hunting, fishing, and his monthly trips to Reno.
He was a former member of the Sons of Italy, the Italy Catholic Federation and St. Mary Church.
Family and Friends will gather at St. Mary Church at 1 p.m. Friday for a funeral Mass. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. A gathering will follow the service at Gilroy Elks Lodge.
