Two arrested for vandalism, one for battery of an officer
Gilroy – Rowdy concert goers took the party home with them when they showed up at the usually quiet Hilton Garden Inn Friday night, prompting the hotel manager to call police for help ushering out the noisy out-of-towners.
Hollister residents Eric Torres, 20, and Gurbachan Mann, 21, were arrested at the hotel on suspicion of vandalism for smashing the car windows of a police cruiser, and Jose Ramon, 18, was arrested on suspicion of battery of a police officer.
But the problems began early Saturday morning with a traffic stop.
Channa Mann, 23, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence about 1:40am Saturday at the intersection of Monterey Road and U.S. 101. After she was arrested, the passengers, who police identified as Torres and Gurbachan Mann, walked to the Hilton. The group was returning from a rap concert at Krazy Koyote, police said.
A short time later, police received a call from the hotel management staff requesting assistance after rowdy individuals visiting guests of the hotel refused to leave.
Police responding to a call of a disturbance on the hotel’s third floor were exiting an elevator when a man stood at the door and said, “Watch out, I’m getting on,” before punching an officer, police said.
Hollister resident Jose Osbaldo Ramon, 18, was arrested at 2:51am, Saturday on suspicion of battery of a police officer.
Later, “a citizen saw (Torres and Mann) break a patrol car window,” said Gilroy Police Sgt. Kurt Svardal.
They were arrested at the Motel 6 about 3:15am.
According to Hilton Garden manager Eric Gebhardt, about 3am police escorted more than 50 people from the premises who were loitering in the front lobby.
“It was definitely a different type of crowd,” he said. “It wasn’t the people staying here, it was the people who didn’t have rooms (that were causing the problems.) It wasn’t really too bad, it’s just more of an issue of crowd control.”
