Tellez nets final bucket in 55-54 win
GILROY – Arnold Tellez made the final basket Thursday as the Titans edged the Sand Pit 55-54 in Men’s E League adult basketball program action at Solorsano School.
Mike Vanni poured in 18 points as the Titans moved to 2-1 atop the E standings. Tellez contributed 16 points, Craig Courtney 11 for the winners. Adolfo Mireles hit two three-point field goals on the way to a team-high 19 points for the 1-2 Sand Pit. Jose Zuniga scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half as the Sand Pit rebounded from a 28-17 deficit.
Bill Huaghney scored 11 points and Matt McIntyre added 10 as 2-1 Gilroy Young Plants outlasted the 1-2 Playaz 52-36. Daniel DeLeon and Henry Huerta each scored nine points for the Playaz.
Headstart moved to 3-0 atop the Men’s D League Wednesday after a 41-39 decision over Pro Electric-Gavilan Honda-Rio Nilo. Don Hall exploded for 20 points, John Blaettler 11for the league leaders. Andres Espinosa paced the 0-3 losers with 12 points, Alexis Rivas nine.
Armando Ocampo struck for 18 points as 2-1 Beale Properties trimmed 1-2 Cordevalle 45-42. Shawn Teacher and Brit Bigelow each scored 11 Beale points. Daniel Croew anchored the Cordevalle offense with 20 points, Brent Torres seven.
Pizza N Stuff moved into a tie for first place at 2-1 with Gaeta’s Taqueria with a 66-59 nod over Gaeta’s Tuesday at Solorsano School in Men’s C League play.
Jeff Powell tossed in 24 points, Donte Fullard 20 and Miguel Gilliard 12 for Pizza N Stuff. Ruchard Klauer worked inside for 30 points, Mark Cisneros outside for 19 for the Taqueria.
Darwin Collins, Tony Purnell and Shawn Hennessy each scored 11 points as FFC topped Triple Threat 49-35. Gilbery Barry led Triple Threat with 15 points. Both teams are 1-2 midway through the first half of play.
Christi Ledesma scored 15 points Wednesday as 3-0 Above the Rim defeated Williams Dental Lab 43-33 in Women’s League play.
Linde Francis and Stephanie Old Elk each managed eight Rim points. Cherie Somavia made 12 points, Maureen Hughes and Maxine Chavez eight each for Williams Dental Lab.
The Sparks moved to 2-1 with a 48-20 victory over R. J. Dyer Real Property Investments. Melanie Arner scored 14 Spoarks points, while Karen Turnlund led the Investors with nine points.
