Dear Editor:
As the joyful holiday season begins to wind down, I am left with a saddened heart. My fiance and I are planning our wedding for this summer. In order to pay for our honeymoon and other expenses we have been working hard to save money. I work in downtown Gilroy and I even took a second job during the holidays to help save for these things. On Dec. 26, my friend and I went to the Platinum theaters in Gilroy to see the movie “Catch Me If You Can.” I, against my better judgment took my purse inside with me. I had just cashed my payroll and had not yet deposited it in the bank. When the movie ended, my friend and I were the last to leave and when I reached for my purse, it was gone. My heart was broken and instantly tears came to my eyes. How ironic to watch a movie about a young man who steals money by writing fraudulent checks when I myself was becoming a victim. I do not know who stole my purse. I may never know but, there were a number of young people in the theater that repeatedly got up and down during the movie and in fact left before the movie was over. I never left my seat. I may have been naive in taking my purse with cash to the movies and I blame myself for doing so but, it saddens me to think that someone could do such a thing. Some of the staff helped my friend and me look for my purse with no luck. I felt compelled to write just in case there was anyone in the movies at that time who may have seen something (last show of the night) and also to warn others to only take what you need with you! The one time I had a substantial amount of cash with me was my biggest mistake. It is not so much the amount of money as it is the fact that someone took something that did not belong to them and obviously has no conscience about doing such a thing. I worked especially hard during this season to contribute toward our wedding. It is too bad this behavior happens everyday. If anyone has any tips about my missing purse I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you for allowing me to express my feelings and would like to wish a Happy New Year to all because what is most important is not monetary but true feelings of love toward one another. Thank you.
