Two toddlers died from apparent drowning over the weekend after their parents discovered them in the family’s San Martin pool, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s office.

One of the parents found their two children, who were both under the age of 3, about 4 p.m. Saturday in the pool behind their home along the 3000 block of Paseo Vista Avenue. At least two sheriff’s deputies arrived along with medics as the parents attempted to resuscitate their children.

A helicopter transported both children to Stanford Medical Center. One died on board, and the other died Sunday morning in the hospital, Sgt. Jim Cardenas said.

Detectives are investigating the incident as an unattended death until they can confirm it was accidental drowning.

“We have two young children who died. This is a very serious event, and we’re investigating every possibility we have before coming to a conclusion,” Cardenas said.

It was unclear if a gate or fence surrounded the pool or if anyone else was home during the incident aside from the parents and two children.

More information on this incident will be posted this afternoon.
