Toshiko Ueki January 1, 1915 – May 9, 2012

After a brief illness, Toshiko Ueki passed away peacefully on May 9, 2012, in Gilroy at the age of 97. Her husband of 52 years, Morito Ueki, preceded her.
She is survived by her children Ida Sheehan (Jerome), Iris, Barton (Ruth), Marvin and Teri Ueki Roan (Bob). She also leaves nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Toshiko was born in San Juan Bautista and was the eldest of 12 in the Takizo and Wai Obata family.
She is survived by siblings Takashi Obata (Haruye) of San Mateo and Betty Iseki of Parlier and many nieces and nephews.
She was a strong, resilient and generous woman who lived on the farm.
She loved to visit Teri and Bob in Auburn because she loved working in the garden weeding and tying the new canes of the ollalaberries after the harvest. In her later years, she would take walks twice a day on the road where she lived for 55 years. She would take her cane and her hoe and pull weeds along the roadside.
She was a good storyteller and had a chronologic mind remembering birthdates of many in her large family.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley staff for the compassionate care they gave our mother during her final days.
Toshiko always remarked that she was her own boss which was evident to the end. She requested that there be no funeral services for her. She made all her own decisions.
She will be fondly missed by all who knew and loved her.
