Police arrested two men who attempted to run from officers following a report of a stolen vehicle Wednesday morning, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

Joseph Jose Castro, 29, who had no listed address, and San Martin resident Armando Millo Castillo, 35, were taken into custody, GPD Sgt. Daniel Casteneda said.

Castaneda said a 2000 Ford Expedition was reported stolen at about 10 a.m. from the 7500 block of Rosanna Street. The car was later located in the 6300 block of Chestnut Street, he said.

When an officer approached the vehicle, Castro, the driver, and Castillo, the passenger, ran from the scene, Castaneda said. Castro was caught about 40 yards away, and Castillo was apprehended while running along the center median of U.S. Highway 101 between 10th Street and Monterey Road, he said.

Castro was booked on suspicion of vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools and giving false information to a peace officer.

Castillo was booked on suspicion of possession of receiving stolen property, violation of probation, resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer and possession of burglary tools.
