Pair could be responsible for other recent auto burglaries

Gilroy – Two juveniles suspected in at least two, and possibly numerous other vehicle burglaries, were arrested early Thursday morning.
The 16- and 17-year-old males were seen driving away from the scene of two burglaries that had just occurred on Blake Court about 1am, according to Sgt. Kurt Svardal with the Gilroy Police Department.
The two teenagers, whose names are not being released because they are minors, were stopped and arrested at Uvas Park Drive and Miller Avenue when they were found to be in possession of property stolen from the cars on Blake Court, Svardal said.
It was unknown whether they were in possession of stolen property from any other recent overnight vehicle burglaries in Gilroy.
In the past few weeks, such thefts have increased dramatically, most notably the night of Wednesday, Jan. 12 and early morning of Thursday, Jan. 13, when seven vehicles were broken into in one night. More than 10 vehicles were broken into over the past weekend.
Svardal did not know how many of the burglarized cars have provided police with fingerprints, but said detectives will see if they can tie the arrested teenagers to any others.
“Because we’ve arrested someone on a fresh case, we’ll try to find out if they’re involved (in the other cases), and the best way to do that is physical evidence, but all that takes time,” Svardal said Thursday.
