Agency exists to serve seniors
Over the years, there has been lots of advice concerning proper nutrition. We were told to avoid fat, eliminate sugar and cut back on carbohydrates. Today the consensus is to eat as many servings of fruits and vegetables as possible.
Red Phone: What image do police present?
"I saw in the Dispatch your coverage of the Sept. 11 remembrance. I was just wondering what the policy was as far as professionalism in the way that Gilroy police officers look. One of the officers was pictured with a goatee. Is that the type of professionalism they portray as far as being neat and clean cut? Also what is the standpoint on officers and having their Facebook open to the public and displaying pictures of officers in uniform? How much information are the officers releasing?"
Red Phone: Fire truck out of jurisdiction?
"My wife and I were at the Jason-Stephens Winery Friday night for a concert. As I was coming back from my vehicle, I saw a Gilroy City fire administrative SUV type vehicle parked next to the serving/restroom building. When we got home, I called the fire nonemergency number and asked why and who was there. It is out of the city jurisdiction and I saw no reason for it to be there. They would not tell me who it was. My point is what is a city vehicle with presumably a city employee doing out of their jurisdiction with our city vehicle and using our city tax payers money?"

Baby season has arrived
A Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center volunteer just picked up the first baby birds of the season. The tiny-tiny hummingbirds (two of which will fit on a dime) are just one day old and came in with egg shell still stuck to their backs. Their mother had flown into a home improvement store, become trapped, and could not return to care for them in their nest in the store's garden center. The extremely fragile babies now require regular feedings of a special formula every 15 minutes for several weeks before they can eat on their own, fly and then be released---IF they survive the first couple of days of their lives.
