Got an email note from the Santa Clara Valley Water District this week. Didn’t have a clue that it was “Groundwater Awareness Week.” But, hey, there’s a week for everything and the “press release people” have a magnificent dream that the press will turn into “sheeple” and write stories on the “topic of the week” every time they send out a “Baaaa release.” Here’s what I know. If the water district were truly concerned about groundwater and such, they would have appointed Gilroy farmer Ralph Santos to the water board to replace the seat vacated when Don Gage won our mayorship, not former Morgan Hill mayor Dennis Kennedy. No offense DK, but there’s not a single farmer on the board and there are plenty of politicians.

Since 1865, Gilroy's St. Mary Roman Catholic Church has had an important role in the life of the South Valley through its parochial school and numerous other ministries. With the retirement in December of longtime pastor and community icon Father Dan Derry, a new pastor was appointed to lead the huge parish (with 4,000 registered members and eight Masses each weekend). Due to his background and talents, The Rev. Robert Brocato seems well-suited for this challenging position.

One of our neighbors was looking for part of his car on the side of the road last evening, so I went to see if I could help out. He was looking for a small piece of his bumper.

For many of a specific age and older, we vividly picture the scene of two individuals: one eating a chocolate bar and one eating peanut butter from a jar. Upon colliding, one exclaims, “You got your peanut butter in my chocolate,” while the other instantly replies, “No, you got your chocolate in my peanut butter.” Advertisers would lead us to believe that this happy accident is what inspired the creation of the peanut butter cup. It would come as no surprise that many years later, another two equally favorite, but unconventionally paired items would come together: Chocolate and bacon!

“Meowllo”, my name is Beau and I am a 10 years “young” cat from the Santa Clara County San Martin Animal Shelter.   I’m here to speak for all of the many mature cats that are currently at the shelter.

A remodeled vintage Chevrolet Corvette, two roll-away tool boxes and aviation equipment were stolen from two separate hangars at the South County Airport in San Martin.

It is located in a nondescript building at 16890 Church St. in an industrial neighborhood of Morgan Hill. The sign out front is rather ambiguous: “Learning and Loving Education Center/Sisters of the Presentation.”
