Celebrate Super Bowl, Mardi Gras with po boy
Two big celebrations are set for New Orleans in the next two weeks: a championship football game and Mardi Gras. In honor of both events, this week I feature the po boy sandwich. My favorite, fit for a Mardi Gras party or watching the Super Bowl, is called Cochon de Lait, made from pulled pork.
‘Cemetery Club’ brings long-time friends together
“The Cemetery Club,” Limelight Theater's current offering is a bittersweet comedy about three friends who meet once a month to celebrate the past and the present. The three widows are the surviving half of three sets of long time best friends. Although each woman is in a different stage of healing, they continue their once-a-month meetings for tea followed by a visit to the local cemetery to pay respects to their husbands.
Gilroy church welcomes all to weekend retreat
The earliest followers of Jesus of Nazareth were inspired by this simple message: Love God and love your neighbor as yourself. They shared these words with such enthusiasm that their numbers multiplied until Christianity became the dominant religion in much of the world.

Bad money habits to break in 2013
Do bad money habits constrain your financial progress? Many people fall into the same financial behavior patterns year after year. If you sometimes succumb to these financial tendencies, the New Year is as good an occasion as any to alter your behavior.
Rock of Ages: A loud blast from the past
Bring your ear plugs and get ready to blast off with what is called a “jukebox musical” of the ’80s. I don't remember the ’80s like this, but then I was considered a fairly sane individual at that time. If you desire some of what the ’80s offered – shrieking guitars and sappy ballads by Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Styx, Poison, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, Starship, Twisted Sister, Motley Crue and Journey to just name a few – this is the show for you.
Sharks reach 5-0 with win over Canucks
SAN JOSE – Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton each scored two points Sunday night as the streaking San Jose Sharks (5-0) outlasted the Vancouver Canucks 4-1 at HP Pavilion.
Marleau nets two more as San Jose blanks Colorado, 4-0
SAN JOSE – Once the suspense related to Patrick Marleau’s two-goals per game streak was dispensed with, the San Jose Sharks put away the Colorado Avalanche 4-0 Saturday afternoon to solidify their hold on first place in the Pacific Division.
Prayers are answered with the 49ers headed back into the Super spotlight
Couldn’t help but think of Father John this weekend up there on the podium at St. Mary’s at the end of Mass saying something like, “Well, I know we shouldn’t be praying for an athletic team, but I am praying in red-and-gold and if you could help out the 49ers …” and now, in a burst reminiscent of past glory, the 49ers are back in the Super Bowl and Father John, I understand, is doing quite well at St. Francis of Assisi parish in East Palo Alto. Prayers answered – and not just Father John’s.
Golf Tips: Stroke types need the right club
Many golfers continue to try to improve their putting stroke every time they are on the course. As I shared in previous tips, there are two basic stokes. The first stroke is straight back and through. The second stroke is slightly inside on the backstroke and follow-through. Both strokes are good, but you need to know which stroke is more natural for you.
