Gratitude is the attitude on the Thankfulness Meter

Depending on when you’re reading this, you’re either in the last throes of Thanksgiving dinner prep or in a coma from too many helpings of turkey. But if you’re still with me, I’m thinking a bit of reflection this time of year is good.

Dec. 6 honors saint important to Christmas

Christmas sometimes seems to be the American national holiday. Even as the economy seems to be improving, stores are counting on “the Christmas spirit” to keep them solvent for another year.

Giving thanks for the simple, the complex and a wonderful life

From the whimsical to the sublime, it’s time – time to be thankful, time to let the “angry birds” in one’s life melt away in the oven, or, better yet on the BBQ grill. I’m thankful for …

FIP is often deadly virus

Q: We recently had our stray kitty put to sleep. She was sick when we found her and she never got any better. The vet said she had FIP, and that she could never be healthy again. I don’t understand why this disease is so untreatable. Can you explain?

It’s more fun to buy holiday gifts locally

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving when hordes of shoppers looking for holiday deals pillage the aisles of chain retail stores like the Vandals sacking ancient Rome. Teraji: This isn’t your grandmother’s dance class

“I just let the music come from my soul; it don’t matter if you’re young or you’re old. Down, down, do your dance, do your dance.”

New Parks director sworn in

Maj. General Anthony Jackson was sworn in Nov. 16 by Gov. Jerry Brown as the 19th Director of California State Parks, according to a press release recently sent out by the department.

GETTING OUT: Enjoying the fall in Hunting Hollow

Last weekend, a restless itch sent me out the door to Hunting Hollow, Henry Coe State Park’s closest and most accessible entrance. I wasn’t in the mood for a long hike, just a place for a quiet stroll. To my surprise, while I was there, I found fall.
