About 150 visitors participated in activities at the fourth annual Chitactac Family Day July 10 at the Chitactac-Adams Heritage Park in west Gilroy on Watsonville Road. Children made personalized rock art pendants (aboe), pounded acorns, tasted foods, made abalone jewelry and played Native Californian games. Members of the Amah Mutsun Tribe, whose ancestors once lived at the village of Chitactac years ago, brought displays and shared stories about their culture and heritage. Mark the calendar to learn more about our local Native American heritage at Amah Mutsun Heritage Day at Chitactac-Adams Park from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 16.
