Renaldo Sanchez, 27, of Union City was killed in a motorcycle accident on U.S. 101 near the Tennant Avenue interchange.
The accident, which happened about 8:45 p.m. Friday, was in the southbound lanes at the onramp, according to California Highway Patrol officer Chris Armstrong.
Sanchez was driving the 2007 Suzuki GSX-R6000 from Tennant Avenue to enter the highway, but due to his high speed, according to the CHP report, he was unable to negotiate the turn. The motorcycle collided with the concrete curb separating merging traffic and southbound traffic on the highway. Sanchez was thrown off the bike into the lanes of traffic and as he was falling, he was hit by a Chevy Prizm driving by Gerardo Gomez, 29, of Gilroy.
When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they attempted to save Sanchez, but he died at the scene.
According to the report, alcohol is not known to be a factor in the accident, which is still under investigation. Sanchez was wearing an approved full-face helmet.
