Anchorpoint Christian came awfully close to canceling its first-ever boys basketball game in Gilroy Thursday night, but even a power outage couldn’t keep the Warriors from lighting it up.

Moving its contest against Calvary Christian to Gilroy High after the power went out at South Valley Middle School, the Warriors dominated their opponents for a 68-28 victory.

Anchorpoint’s Adrian Rodriguez led all scorers with 25 points, while Ryan Lasondak continued to clean the glass after leading the Central Coast Section in rebounds a year ago, collecting 15 boards to go with 18 points. Josh Ignagni was another Warrior to reach double-figures, pitching in 12 points.

“They just came out hot, they were aggressive,” coach K.C. Adams said about his players.

With a 6-4 record and undefeated mark in the Coast Athletic League after two games, Adams thought his team was starting to find its self.

“We used to have a lot of good guards, but now our forwards are starting to mature,” he said.

Adams added that being able to have the school’s first game played in Gilroy was a noteworthy occasion in the history of Anchorpoint sports, and wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Gilroy High Athletic Director Jack Daley, who made the facilities available to the private school.

The Warriors’ next game will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Marina. The boys will play after the girls team, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. The girls also have a contest earlier in the week on Tuesday, when they play Anzar at 5:30 p.m. at South Valley Middle School.
