Dear Editor,

The Emergency Housing Consortium LifeBuilders recently held its annual event to remember the homeless individuals who died during the past year.

We also recognized the tremendous work of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints for their continued commitment to working with the homeless at the Gilroy Armory during the last 15 years. Roger Childers accepted the Jim McEntee LifeBuilder Award on behalf of members of the following wards that have been involved in numerous service activities over the years: Grace Lethebe, San Benito Spanish Branch, Gavilan Spanish Branch, Morgan Hill Ensign Ward, Hollister 1st Ward, Hollister 2nd Ward, Bernal Ward, Morgan Hill 1st Ward, Morgan Hill 2nd Ward, Morgan Hill 3rd Ward, Gavilan Hills Ward, and the Del Ray Park Ward.

During the cold weather season, when the Gilroy Armory is open to house homeless people from South County, teams of volunteers from these wards come every Tuesday to do intake interviews, cook and serve 100-180 dinner meals, teach ESL classes and facilitate non-denominational spiritual reflection groups. Also, they organize donation drives and coordinate special social activities for the homeless.

Our community is much better because of the service that these dedicated volunteers provide to the less fortunate members of our city. We wanted to share this news with your readers and hope they will join us in congratulating them for their commitment to making our community a wonderful place in which to live!
