Dear Editor,
I was shocked and disgusted to see Chris Coté on the cover of the Gilroy Business Focus which was enclosed with the Gilroy Dispatch. I was special counsel for Gilroy Unified School District and other of Cote’s victims in the 1980s and 1990s.
It is a sad day for this town when our Chamber of Commerce places an FBI registered, convicted felon, who stole from our school children on the front page of the Chamber’s newspaper. It would be futile for me to attempt to put into words how I feel about someone who steals from school children, elderly, retirees, etc. via Sierra Valley Bus lines.
Although it took me 11 years to recover all the victims’ money and damages from Mr. Coté, I would have gladly spent my entire lifetime in the pursuit of justice for his numerous victims. I consider it an insult to all of us who have taken an oath to uphold the law and constitution of this state and nation that the Chamber would permit Mr. Coté to be on its Government Review Committee.
The non-dischargeability fraud judgment entered against him in his bankruptcy case shows his true character. Our Chamber leaders owe Gilroy’s small business owners an apology.
Joseph P. Thompson, Gilroy
