Dear Editor:

The City of Gilroy Youth Commission recently held a “Battle of the Bands” event at Christmas Hill Park. This event gave local talent a chance to showcase their bands in front of an audience of their peers. The participating bands were Dark Heaven, Impure, Elisium, Force of Habit, and 3rd Stream.

It was a beautiful afternoon at the park; sun shining, softball teams cheering, children running, the ice-cream man ringing his bell, and the enthusiastic blend of instruments stating firmly their style in music. The exposure of the different music styles was a first experience for many attending. Band members brought grandparents, parents, siblings and friends together in support of their talent and effort.

For those who sat on shaded amphitheater steps picnicking and keeping rhythm, the hint of garlic still lingering in the air, this was a day to relax and enjoy. We wish to make public our appreciation for those community members who contributed their support to our “Battle of the Bands” – Dr. Michael McKeever, Dr. Samuel Wendong Wu, Dr. Gar Chan, Dr. Kourosh Bruce Sarhaddi, Dr. Joseph McMurray, Martin and Rhoda Bress, Habing Family Funeral Home, Studio Three and the Printing Spot.

Through your generosity the youth in Gilroy have one more reason to believe “Gilroy is great.”

Allan Chan (Chair), Alexis Dalke (Vice-chair), Ty Ashford, Lauren Bevilacqua, David Bress, Jennifer Clet, Marliz Copado, Kristina De Marco, Terence Hofstad, Spencer Silva, Danika Vogel, Gilroy
