GILROY – Brandon Elam struck for eight points Saturday as the Clippers edged the Knicks 22-17 in Boys’ 6-7 Grade Youth Basketball play at Solorsano Gymnasium.
A total of 22 games in the 47-team program were played over three sites. Games are scheduled each Saturday except Feb. 7 through mid-March.
Kauhu Gaspar scored 14 points as Orange Crush claimed the 6-7 opener with a 36-21 nod over the Blue Devils. Jordan Holler and Lukas Fortino each scored eight Crush points. Greg Hamik and Mario Cid each scored six points for the Blue Devils.
Andres Valverde and Ken Urbauski scored eight points apiece to key a 37-29 Runnin’ Rebels victory over the Suns. Nick Marra followed with six points for the Rebs. Joaquin Silva popped in 10 points, Alex Pacheco six for the Suns.
Girls’ 8-10 Grade:
Stephanie Solario delivered 16 points to pace the Monarchs by the Queens of the Court 33-12 Saturday at South Valley Gym.
Deborah Senior collected nine points, Cristal Binowski eight for the winners.
Then Sparks powered past the Celtics 20-7 in the 8-10 nightcap.
Boys’ 8-10 Grade:
Philip Terry exploded for 21 points as the Huskers topped the 76’ers 41-35.
Bernard Salgado added six points as the Huskers began an eight-game campaign. Derek Jensen collected 12 points, Brett Jones 11 for the 76’ers.
JoJo Gutierrez hit for 10 points as the Rockets edged the Ballerz 37-33. Frank Tomsetti managed nine points, Ernest Alnas eight and Travis Glueck six for the winners. John Funkhauser poured in nine points, Anthony Bravo and Christopher Funk six each for the Ballerz.
Joe Gallo’s 26 points carried the Eastside Ballerz by the Sonics 44-28. Ryan Costa followed with 11 points for the winners. Jacob Dexter scored seven points, Anthony Cary six for the Sonics.
Boys’ 5 Grade:
Dylan Jensen’s eight points made the difference in a 25-22 Lakers victory over the Blazers.
Sean Monroe added six points and eight rebounds for the Lakers. Chris Catanzaro added six boards and four steals. Cameron Yowary managed nine points, Gavin Menges six for the Blazers.
Quillan McJunkin popped in eight points to lead the Magic past the Spurs 20-10. Jorge Sanchez added six points and A.J. Been delivered four points, six rebounds and three steals for the Magic. Jordan Besson led the Spurs offense with 10 ponts.
Girls 5 Grade:
Lauren Rhodes scored 17 points as the Sparks defeated the Monarchs 17-14.
Chelsea Hill followed with six points for the Sparks. Jessica Jarvis made several screens to set up Sparks baskets, while Julianna St. Geme, Alessandra Filice, Francesca Filice and Cassidy Daley carried the Sparks defensive effort. Katelyn Nebesnick scored eight points for the Monarchs.
Ashley Lambert scored eight points and Paige Peterson hit for four as the Magic trimmed the Blazers 16-12.
Boys 3-4 Grade:
Greg Spellman scored eight ponts in the second half as the Cavaliers erased an 8-4 deficit to defeat the Kings 16-10 at Wheeler Community Center.
Ryan Bay hustled to four points for the Cavaliers. Brandon Pickens countered with six points for the Kings.
Ryan Alba scored 21 points to lead the Cougars to a 42-26 victory over the Celtics. Bryant Cid hit one three-point field goal in an 11-point showing for the Cougars. Peter Hilkene responded with 12 points, Alex Gutierrez eight for the potent Celtics attack.
Tanner Holland and Adam Vaden each scored eight points as the Raptors trimmed the Sonics 28-27. Jordan Dexter scored eight Sonics points.
Ryan Ramirez scored eight points and Brian Tapparo and Stefan Mercer added six each as the Warriors topped the Gladiators. Manuel Mendoza pulled down eight rebounds for the Warriors.Takoda Bowes made one bucket for the Gladiators.
Girls 3-4 Grade:
Sara Saucedo scored 12 points as the Broncos opened league play with a 28-10 win over the Rockets.
Ashley Bryant scored six points, Kathryn Funkhauser four for the Broncos. Serena Sandoval pulled down eight rebounds. Hanna Tabron split the Bronco defense to put in six points for the Rockets. Ebony Stevens added four points. The Rockets, with only two players with experience in the program, improved each quarter.
Kaylana Mah popped in 22 points to lead the Hotshots past the Lady Monarchs 42-18. Michelle Sosa scored 12 Hotshot points, while Amber Gamboa and Vanessa Tellez anchored the defense. Ashley Williams delivered 12 points, Amanda Jabe four for the Lady Monarchs.
