The first Saturday in April marks the 12th Annual Spring Lamb Barbecue and Bocce Tournament – an annual day of wine tasting, bocce, traditional greek lamb barbecue and auctions.
To date, the event has netted $879,000 over the last dozen years to benefit the Ronald McDonald House, which provides a home away from home for families of children with life-threatening illnesses while they receive treatment at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and other area hospitals.
“The Spring Lamb Barbecue has been a true blessing for the House. For 10 years the committee has staged a beautiful event that has received the ultimate compliment – return attendance by a faithful audience,” wrote Ronald McDonald House Chief Executive Officer Annette Eros.
More than 70 percent of the families served by the House are of low to moderate income, according to the event website. The House serves more than 1,000 families each year, giving rooms to live in for just $10 per night and for less for those that can’t.
The amount that families pay to live at the House covers just 6 percent of House costs, according to the event’s website. More than 85 percent of the budget is donated by individuals, foundations, businesses and fundraising events such as the Spring Lamb Barbecue and Bocce Tournament event.
