Why go backwards and let the Republicans ruin the economy again? We’re gaining jobs

When Obama took office in January of 2009 America was losing 750,000 jobs a month. Now we’re adding 250,000 jobs a month.

Although we have a long way to go, the number of jobs is almost 1 million jobs a month increase since the end of the Bush administration. It seems to me that we are heading in the right direction and I don’t see why we should consider going back to the party of Bush and have them ruin the economy like they did last decade.

Taxes: Either say ‘No,’ or “Thanks you sir and please may I have another’

Dear Editor,

When Obama took office in January of 2009 America was losing 750,000 jobs a month.To all voters, I cannot stress enough, when asked to pay more tax, be it local or statewide, just say no!

As long as we continue to agree to tax hikes, they will continue to spend into the red. This fiscal year, the state budget spends $103 billion; last year (2010-11) it was $92.5 billion, and $87 billion the year before.  View it yourself at lao.ca.gov if you think I’m pulling these numbers out of a hat. 

By finally being able to pass the budget with a simple majority, the Democrats and Gov. Moonbeam hiked spending by 11 percent over the previous fiscal year, and are now crying “broke” and “deficit.”

The state’s population grew by less than one percent; there is absolutely no excuse for such a spending hike. They overspent because they believe the sheeple will be dumb enough to approve tax hikes and continue business as usual. This is just like a teenager with her first credit card, charging more than can possibly be paid off, and then asking mom and dad to pay the bill! 

They come crying, “we need more money.” (Who doesn’t?) They threaten to cut schools and close parks. Let ’em!  They don’t even want us to smoke a cigar in a park any more. Privatize the parks, and shorten the school year. 

They say, pay more tax or your children will foot the bill. They told us this in the 1990s, and as soon as we paid more, they hiked spending and a few years later came back with the same sob story and threats.  They told us this in the 2000s, that would only be for two years, and begged for more. 

The apologists tell us that taxes are low; that is a lie. Tax revenue is low because they’re not taking in as much as when housing was inflated, and that is because there are not enough real jobs or trade schools.  The government only protects and serves public-sector jobs, while selling out the rest of us (private sector) to China (Clinton), and more recently, Viet Nam (Obama). To pay even more to these liars is to say, “Thank you, Sir, may I have another?!”

Please think and support the Susan G. Komen organization in fight against breast cancer

Dear Editor,

The recent editorial attack in the San Jose Mercury politicizing the Komen charity is the most shameful use of the media to affect political influence that I have witnessed in my 75 years.

Komen is a non-political charity joining people of all political, religious, and other beliefs in the fight against breast cancer.  Why is the SJMN against that? Why this attempt to destroy a worthy charity through biased political division? 

For Komen it’s a no-win, no-win situation. In order to keep a clean slate of the highest integrity they decided not to fund any group of questionable integrity.  Planned Parenthood later came into that category while being investigated for use of public funds for abortions. The powerful Planned Parenthood has a long history of fighting off adversaries. Well, the media jumped on Komen like piranhas and forced a reversal of their policy. During the media frenzy Planned Parenthood received more donations than Komen gave in 2010. 

Komen may have lost funding in a truly unfortunate and undeserved vilification by the media for just trying to do the right thing in not supporting questionable groups.

As the husband of a breast cancer survivor, I urge renewed support for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to defeat breast cancer.
