Gilroy, Salinas, Hollister fight for MBL title
HOLLISTER – The MBL golf title is still up for grabs.

With the final league match at Ridgemark GC in Hollister being completed Thursday, three teams (Gilroy, Salinas and Hollister) are all statistically in the running, heading into the league championship meet Monday at San Juan Oaks GC. While the Mustangs and Salinas are in a first-place tie at 18.5 in league standings, Hollister is not far behind with 20.5 followed by Monterey (30), Palma (31.5) and Live Oak (38).

“It’s who ever wins the league finals will win the MBL title,” head coach Eric Kuwada said. “I believe we can play well there. San Juan Oaks is similiar in style to that of Eagle Ridge. Our guys feel comfortable there. So wewill see what develops. Now it truly comes down to who wants it the most. We all have an equal chance at the title.”

At Ridgemark GC on Thursday, Hollister won on its home course with a combined 303 with Gilroy and Salinas tied up in second with 312s; Palma in fourth with a 314; Live Oak in fifth with a 316; Monterey in sixth with a 320: North Salinas in seventh with a 338; Alvarez in eighth with a 375; and North County in ninth with a 397.

The Gilroy line-up finished with senior Kevin Noto’s team-low 74; junior Chad Brownfield’s 78; Dave Stewart’s 79; Brian Mikrut’s 81; Joel Robinson’s 83; and Ryan Dinsmore’s 86.
