Gilroy – The fourth annual Kite Day will be held in a big windy field at Pacheco State Park, Saturday, June 18.

This year’s event marks the park’s eighth anniversary as a state park with an afternoon of kite flying and contests. In addition to prizes for best kites made by children, adults and groups, there will be a pie eating contest and a bubble gum bubble blowing challenge. There will also be tables and displays hosted by U.S. Fish and Wildlife and California State Parks.

Everyone who flies a kite will receive a souvenir Kite Day button. Families are encouraged to bring kites, food and drinking water. For more information and contest rules visit www.parks.ca.gov/events or call Jennifer Morgan at (209) 826-1196, ext. 534.

Pacheco State Park is located 25 miles east of Gilroy on Highway 152. Take the Dinosaur Point exit south and turn right, through the park gate. Follow the trail of kites down the dirt road into the park.
