Question GUSD board candidates
Gilroy – The Gilroy High School Parent Club is staging a Candidates’ Forum at 7:30pm Wednesday in the high school library. A five minute per candidate introduction period will be followed by an hour long question and answer period. The questions will be posed by the audience.

Adult literacy tutors needed
Gilroy – Vision Literacy needs tutor volunteers to help adults build their literacy skills. Vision Literacy is conducting tutor volunteer orientation Monday or Tuesday at the Vision Literacy Gilroy Office, 42 Martin St. at 6pm.

Audubon Society meets Wednesday
Gilroy – The Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society and the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club will hold an environmental conservation meeting from 7L30 to 9pm Wednesday. The meeting will take place in the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna St., 408-842-8207 and will focus on the Pajaro River Watershed.

Event benefits Gilroy Foundation
Gilroy – The Gilroy Foundation is hosting its annual fundraiser “A Day In The Country” at Fortino Winery Saturday, Sept. 30 at 5pm. The evening begins with hors d’oeuvres, wine tasting and a silent auction, with music provided by “Open Invitation.” Dinner and a live auction conducted by Sean O’Callaghan, Bay Area radio and television personality will follow.
All proceeds benefit The Gilroy Foundation, a community organization that serves the needs of local nonprofits through yearly grants. The Gilroy Foundation was established in 1980 to help meet the growing needs of our community in the areas of health, education, recreation, culture and civic services.
Fortino Winery is located at 4525 Pacheco Pass Highway in Gilroy. Tickets for the event are $100 per person and may be purchased by calling 408-842-3727.

SV Symphony tickets go on sale
Gilroy – Tickets for the opening concert for the South Valley Symphony will go on sale Monday at the following locations: Porcella’s Music and Accessories, 7357 Monterey St. in Gilroy; Carole’s Hallmark Store, 779 First St., Gilroy; Booksmart at their new location at Second and Depot streets, Morgan Hill; Postnet Postal and Business Services, 1760 Airline Highway, Hollister; and Mission Gallery in downtown San Juan Bautista.
Season ticket prices are now also available at a price of $90 for adults; $75 for senior citizens age 55 and older and $50 for students ages 12 to 18. They may be obtained by forwarding checks payable to the South Valley Symphony, Inc., P. O. Box 1347, Gilroy, CA 95021-1347.
Tickets to season ticket holders will be mailed to their home addresses in late September or picked up at the Will Call table the evening of the opening concert set for Saturday evening, Oct. 7 at the Gavilan College Theater.
Individual concert prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors age 55 and older and $9 for students ages 12 to 18. The season’s final concert slated for the San Juan Bautista Mission scheduled for Mother’s Day, May 13, 2007 at 4pm, will be priced at $25 for adults, $20 for senior citizens and $15 for students and will include a wine and cheese tasting reception following the concert.
