DEAR EDITOR:

I can no longer remain silent! As we get closer to the local elections, I have been reading more and more Anti- Wal-Mart sentiment on these pages. Enough is enough!

I have been a Wal-Mart employee for 10 years! If you do the math yes, that’s since before we opened! I started as a part time employee but before we opened was given full time status. I had no retail experience whatsoever coming in and today I am a department manager earning 3 times as much as when I started 10 years ago.

Wal-Mart does offer health benefits, 401K and profit sharing as well as the opportunity to earn merit raises. There are also many opportunities to advance in the company of we choose to do so. It’s a matter of one’s choice !

One of the many things I like about Wal-Mart is the open door policy! The door is always open at Wal-Mart! No matter how busy he is, and he is very busy, our Store Manager is always willing to take the time to listen to what we have to say! Good or bad. No repercussions.

I have lived in Gilroy for almost 53 years, (my whole life.) I worked in the fields as a child. As a matter of fact I lived on the Trevis Berry Ranch (the site where Wal-Mart will relocate) as a child. My father worked for Mr. Berry on the ranch. I have watched Gilroy grow from what it was then to what it is now, a thriving town with a diverse population!

I love Gilroy and I love my job at Wal-Mart. The misinformation out there about the terrible treatment of Wal-Mart employees insults my intelligence. Do you think I would remain in it’s employ for ten years if that was true? Please be informed before you judge!
