Dear Editor:

Rarely have I enjoyed an article in The Dispatch more than the letter to the editor by Pastor Eric Smith on April 29. He covered a subject dear to me and of great importance to all – the separation of church and state.

As Pastor Smith wrote, there is no such statement in either the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. That phrase is a figment of the imagination of atheistic judges and lawyers. How did this great lie come about?

The great lie started when the religion of humanism gradually began to replace Christianity as the foundation of our educational system about 1933. Under the influence of John Dewey, Professor of Education at Columbia University of New York. Professor Dewey introduced and championed the Humanist Manifesto into our school system.

Humanism, a true religion, states there is not God, evolution is a fact and nothing is neither right nor wrong – only in so far as thinking makes it so (situational ethics). With humanism as the foundation of our educational system, one can readily see how students of law (ultimately judges) have no sense of right nor wrong. There are no Natural Laws (the Laws of Moses), judgment in based upon precedent.

If a judge rules there is separation of church and state and he says you cannot say a prayer on a football field, all subsequent judges will parrot the theme. There is no need to think; just follow the precedent. That is how we got into the legal mess we are now in, no God in the Pledge of Allegiance, no Christian crosses on government property.

How about Arlington National Cemetery where crosses stand row on row? Until Christianity is restored as the foundation of our government, society and out schools, we as a nation are in trouble – deep trouble.
