Gavilan College hires women’s soccer coach
GILROY – Gavilan College is pleased to announce the hiring of Marty Behler as the new head coach for women’s soccer. Her first day in this part-time position was Monday, April 21, 2003. She replaces Kent Cote, who stopped coachjing women’s soccer in January to devote himself fulltime to baseball..
“We are delighted to have Marty Behler join the Rams. She brings strong skills and experience, and a great attitude.” said Ron Hannon, Athletic Director for Gavilan College.
Behler brings extensive coaching experience, as well as skills in marketing, community relations, and business. Most recently, Marty Behler has been the head coach for women’s soccer at Hartnell College. During her year as head coach, the team went from 12th to 4th place in the Coast Conference. She previously had coached at De Anza College, where she graduated cum laude with an A.A. in Social Sciences in 1976. She earned her B.A. in American History and Cultural Anthropology from San Jose State University in 1979.
Marty Behler’s resume includes more than soccer. She has designed and implemented a Native American Studies program at San Jose State University, served as a counselor at a program for juvenile offenders, been the Director /Community Liaison Specialist for Title IV-A American Indian Education at Milpitas Unified School District, and been the Director of Community Relations for the San Jose Earthquakes, among other experiences.
“The breadth of her skills in managment, fundraising, and working with youth, in addition to her soccer and coaching experience, will make her a valuable addition to the Gavilan College Athletics department. We look forward to working with her.” added Ron Hannon.
