Dear Editor:

I would like to thank many people and businesses that helped our South Valley Jr. High 7th graders experience the beauty and wonder of Yosemite National Park as part of their educational experience this year.

The students spent three nights with the Yosemite Institute hiking, snow shoeing, and cross country skiing in Yosemite. Approximately 50 students participated and it was a highly successful learning experience.

I would like to thank the following businesses and individuals who helped make this opportunity happen. Chevy’s and Fresh Choice restaurants provided proceeds from meals towards the cost of the trip. We also had a very successful See’s Candies sale and Papa Murphy’s Pizza cards that raised significant funds. We also had many chaperones who paid their way to go on this trip and supported all of our children.

Thank you to the many moms who helped me with the many fund-raising activities. A special thanks to Ms. Gonzales who takes her time and energy to plan this wonderful trip each year. Thank you to Mrs. Stocks who stepped in at the last minute to be our chaperoning teacher.

During these next few weeks of intense testing, let us remember that much learning can happen outside the classroom. I hope that this trip can be replicated at our next middle school as I know that Brownell School does this trip for its eighth graders. These are experiences that will create lasting memories for our children and a very positive school experience.
