MORGAN HILL – Steven Conner brings versatlity and desire to the Live Oak offense. Whether it is football, basketball or baseball, Conner has proven that he is a gamer in each game and is not afraid to show emotion afterwards.

“I just want to win,” Conner said. “Sometimes I tend to force the plays. I am just going to try to be a little more patient.”

The attitude of winning has pushed him to be his best. Even though Conner has excelled, he credits his teammates around him with his success.

“Everyone’s been working hard this year,” Conner said. “We are playing well together.”

Last year Conner was one the Tri-County Athletic League’s top receivers, gaining more than four hundred yards receiving. The First Team All-TCAL Offense player was able to move to quarterback to give the Acorns more options.

“I just play wherever they need,” Conner said about his preference of quarterback or receiver. “I don’t really have a preference.”

Although Conner is listed as the Acorns’ top quarterback on the depth chart, he has some competition for the starting job. Cody Welch and Jonathon Redmond also are capable of doing the job, and each one brings different strengths to the table.

One of Conner’s favorite receivers this year will be his cousin Shaun Standridge, a first-year varsity player. The duo played together on JV when Conner was a sophomore and Standridge was a freshman. But Conner didn’t get to throw any passes to him because they were usually on opposite sides of the ball.

With its heart and dedication, Live Oak is capable of going a long ways this year, Conner said.

“I think we could win CCS if work really hard,” Conner said. “But it won’t be easy. There is a lot of work we have to do if we are to get there.”

With his leadership on the field, Live Oak should be able to compete and at least be close again in every game.
