The Hollister Police Department is looking for a man in his 30s after they alleged he tried to pry an 8-month-old baby from the child’s mother on June 9.
Just after 1 p.m., police alleged the man went to a home in the first block of Vista Lane to ask for information about a boat that was for sale. The woman, with the baby in her arms, went outside to show the man the boat. As they approached it, the man lunged for the child and demanded him from the mother.
She wrestled away from the suspect and ran inside her house before he could take the baby. The man did not pursue her, police said. Instead, he fled the area in his black four-door sedan. The woman did not see the man’s direction.
The suspect is described as Hispanic; 5 feet, 7 inches tall; with black hair; and an earring in his right ear. Police have no other suspect information.
Police tase, arrest suspect after foot chase
Hollister police on Thursday arrested a man after chasing him down on foot and shooting him with an electronic stun gun, police said.
Hollister Police Officer Erik Morris arrested Michael Anthony Farve, 42, of Hollister, following a traffic stop in the area of Hawkins Street and Prune Street. Morris initially stopped Farve for traffic violations and found that Farve’s driver license was suspended, police alleged in the press release. Further investigation determined that Farve was in possession of burglary tools and had a warrant for his arrest. As Morris began to place Farve in handcuffs, Farve fled on foot, according to police.
Other Hollister police officers responded to assist and Farve was taken into custody after a struggle in which officers had to use pepper spray and then a TASER. A bag suspected of containing crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was found in the area where Farve had fled.
He was booked into the county jail on recommended charges of possessing burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, being under the influence, resisting arrest, assaulting an officer and driving with a suspended license, according to police.
Suspect flees, then turns himself in, after hit-and-run
A 58-year-old Hollister man survived a hit-and-run accident on the 300 block of Nash Road just before 6:30 p.m. June 11 after the driver of a sport utility vehicle – who later turned himself in – struck him and fled.
Larry Santos was hit by a Dodge Durango as the SUV was making a left turn into an alleyway, according to the Hollister Police Department. Santos reported that the man hit him while he was stopped on his bike. Santos alleged he fell off and the SUV ran over him seconds later.
The driver, Pedro Castillo-Anbor, 35, of Hollister, turned himself into police a little more than an hour later.
According to police, Santos was stopped on the sidewalk when the SUV hit him, he said. The impact launched him 10 feet away from where he was standing, Santos reported, and the vehicle continued forward, crushing Santos’ legs and rolling up his torso.
The impact dislocated his right leg at the knee, he said.
“I’m lucky it didn’t kill me,” Santos said.
After running over Santos, the driver got out of his car to talk to Santos, who yelled to call 911. The driver got back in his car and drove off, according to police.
Two witnesses saw the incident and called for help. Santos was rushed to Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.
Santos said he had bruises throughout his lower half and that his legs were still too swollen for X-rays.
After turning himself in, Castillo-Anbor said he was scared and didn’t know the laws.
