Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services Basha Millhollen will remain on medical leave until April 1 then retire.
Trustees approved her retirement Thursday evening. The district’s educational services department has been strained since Millhollen left for medical leave in September.
“I miss her a lot,” Superintendent Deborah Flores said. “She was a great member of my staff, one of the hardest working people I’ve met.”
During Millhollen’s absence, Marilyn Ayala, the district’s director of curriculum and instruction, has stepped up as interim assistant superintendent. Another retired principal comes in two days a week to fulfill some of Ayala’s former duties and the district is hoping to hire another person to temporarily fill Ayala’s shoes the other three days, until the position is filled, Flores said.
The district hoped to post the position for assistant superintendent on EdJoin.org, a public education job search Web site, Friday afternoon. Applicants will have four to five weeks to submit their resumes. Flores expects the interview process to take another month, she said. She hopes to fill the position by the end of the school year.
Millhollen earned about $149,000 annually in salary and benefits.
The district is also currently searching for an assistant superintendent of administrative services and a director for human resources – two additional vacancies that are stretching thin the district’s already strained staff, Flores said.
