The No. 3-seeded Lady Mustangs earned a first-round bye while the No. 6 Chargers defeated No. 11 Homestead 5-3 on Tuesday to advance.
Game time is scheduled for a 10:45 a.m. start at the Salinas Sports Complex Field 4 on Saturday.
Tri-County Athletic League awards were announced this week and three Lady Mustangs, sophomore Casey Lester, junior Melanie Morelos and junior Sarah Lira, were awarded First-team All-League recognition.
Lester, a center fielder, played in all 12 league games for the Mustangs and led the team with a .528 (one home run, eight RBI) batting average, banging out 19 hits – sharing the team lead in that category with Morelos. Not only was Lira ( Gilroy’s go-to pitcher, she also collected a .428 average at the dish. Morelos, who caught every game for GHS, batted a cool .442 (19 hits, one double, two triples, 14 RBI) in 12 league contests.
Senior Alissa Castro and junior Dani Hemeon were penciled in on the second-team, and Michelle Sosa was chosen for the Sportsmanship Award.
