Today, downtown Gilroy invites the community to enjoy a host of activities. This is a personal invitation for everyone to join me and the City Council in the festivities.
As your mayor, I made a commitment to our citizens to revitalize your downtown. Downtown Gilroy is the heart of your community, but it takes a community to support these efforts. The downtown activities are for the young and the young at heart, and I sincerely hope you will support these efforts by packing up the family and spending time in downtown Gilroy.
Santa will visit with children in the Chamber breezeway from 11am to 1 pm. There will be two marionette matinee shows, free coloring books and crayons, candy and refreshments. At 4:30pm, there will be strollers throughout the downtown in period costumes followed by entertainment, a light parade, and our traditional tree lighting ceremony with the arrival of Santa on his sleigh pulled by yours truly and the rest of the Councilmember’s.
Many of the businesses will be open until 8:30pm and have worked hard to make this one of the most memorable holiday events in our downtown by decorating their businesses and planning refreshments and other activities.
We speak of building community, and this is a prime opportunity for the community to show its support for our historic downtown Gilroy. To you and yours, I wish you a happy holiday season and hope to see everyone on Saturday in our historic downtown Gilroy.
