Irish Dodgers finish 17-1 and will advance into Tournament of
Champions
GILROY – The Claddaugh Irish Pub and Restaurant Dodgers proved once again Wednesday their dominance within the boys minors ranks of the Gilroy Little League.
With a 9-4 victory over The Radiator Doctor Dodgers, the Irish claimed the boys minors championship, finishing the season with an impressive 17-1 overall record. They will now represent Gilroy in the Tournament of Champions, starting Sunday in San Juan Batista at 6 p.m.
Thomas Harrington earned the championship victory with a steady, complete-game effort for the Irish, while Jordan Maquinalez took the hard-fought loss, going the distance for Radiator Doctor.
Johnathan Mendoza, James Benson, Brandon Pickens and Christian Salazar all had multi-hit games for the winners. Teammate Ryan Alba hit a clutch, run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth inning to clinch the victory.
Marques Medina and Travis Franco had big hits at the plate for the Radiator Doc squad.
Mendoza, Ryan Ramirez and Thomas Harrington all played solid defensive games for the Claddaugh crew, while Joseph Lampkin and Rudy Maquinalez had crucial defensive efforts to keep Radiator Doctor in the game.
Radiator Doctor finished with a 15-3 overall record to take second behind the champion Claddaugh squad.
