DEAR EDITOR:

After such a wonderful Memorial Day in Gilroy, I want to express my thanks to a number of people who helped make the day’s events possible.

The Gilroy Memorial Day Committee team members put in countless hours and tireless effort to make the days events a memorable occasion. Topping the list are the efforts of Bob Dillon, Russ Valiquette, Wayne Cegelske and Dion Bracco.

Wayne always does a wonderful job making the Remembrance program a memorable event. Wayne has done this for years and almost makes it look effortless even though we know he puts in a great deal of work, and it shows. Thanks Wayne!

Bob and Russ were in charge of the parade and with the assistance of Mark Jacobson, the parade was a wonderful event. We had over 90 entries totaling about 800 people to organize and make sure they stepped off on time and in the right order. Bob also was one of the announcers on the parade route. Mark, Russ and Bob, job well done!!

Dion was in charge of the Family Fun Day at the Park. Dion is new to the committee this year and jumped in with both feet and made sure all the bases were covered. Thanks Dion for doing such a wonderful job!

I wish to also thank our parade judges, Roland Velasco, Phyllis Armenta and Bill Valiquette. A big thank you also to our three sets of announcers, Scott Lynch and Kirsten Carr, Mark Turner and Susan Jacobson, and Jeff Orth and Bob Dillon. Your voices and commentary are a pleasant addition to the parade. Thanks to all of you!!

All of our work was supported by the organizational efforts of Gilroy Police Officer Mike Terasaki and his crew of VIPs, Explorers and Reserves. Your team does such a great job securing the parade route and park. A special thank you to all the team members.

I also would like to thank the many people with the City of Gilroy’s Community Services Department and Administration Department for making sure the Train Depot, parade route and Christmas Hill Park was ready for the day’s events as well as helping to clean up after wards. Thank you.

Last but not least, a special thank you to The Dispatch for covering all the different reasons we have a Memorial Day. Wonderful coverage.

Thanks you one and all for all the hard work and many hours you put in this year to make Monday’s events memorable.

And to think, we get to do this again in only 363 days. If you would like to help us next year, please contact us at [email protected], no experience necessary, just a desire to help.
