Gilroy – The St. Mary School Scholastic Book Fair is coming Thursday. The fair will be open after all Masses. Get a jump start on your Christmas shopping by purchasing some great books for the children in your life.
There are books of interest for adults as well. The Book Fair is the major fundraising event for the St. Mary School library.
Cowboy Poetry at the Gilroy Library Saturday
Gilroy – Bob Pearl, the Appalachian Cowboy, will bring his program of classic Cowboy Poetry to the Gilroy Library, 7387 Rosanna Street, on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m.
Several years ago, Pearl became hooked on Cowboy Poetry at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Since then, he’s developed a program on classic Cowboy Poetry which he’s performed for many Bay Area groups.
He’s also on the board for the Monterey Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival. He’ll bring to life the poetry of Bruce Kiskaddon, Henry Herbert Knibbs, Charles Badger Clark, S. Omar Barker, and others.

Retired teachers Spring Luncheon Thursday
Morgan Hill – The Uvas Valley Chapter of the California Retired Teachers Association will meet for their annual Spring Luncheon at noon Thursday, at Marie Callender’s Restaurant, 18599 Sutter Blvd.
Member Hermann Schuralzvie will entertain with his special music and Jim Simoni will give a presentation on creating a living trust.

Salvation Army needs holiday volunteers
Gilroy – The Salvation Army needs volunteers to help during the holiday season. Volunteers are need to help:
• Pack food boxes for Thanksgiving and Christmas and distribute them on Nov. 19 and Dec. 17. Contact Major Gonzatti or Laura at 848-5373
• Adopt a family for Christmas by helping provide food, new toys and warm clothing for a family in need. Contact Christine Flautt at 848-848-5373
• Sponsor a food or toy barrel. Contact the Salvation Army at 848-5373
• Be a bell ringer between Nov. 26 and Dec. 24, for two-hour or all-day shifts from 10am to 4pm. Contact Major Gonzzatti at 848-3994 or 848-5373.
Food and toy donation also are being accepted at Gilroy Salvation Army, 200 W. Fifth St. The Salvation Army is open from 9am to 4pm.
Advent Lutheran Church’s Art and Fair Trade Faire
Gilroy – Advent Lutheran Church is hosting its first Art and Fair Trade Faire on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday, Nov. 14 from 1 to 5pm.
Advent Lutheran Church is located at 16870 Murphy Ave. in Morgan Hill. This event will offer fairly traded, handmade crafts by artisans from around the world, along with creative art expressions and culinary fare by local south county residents.
With the holidays rapidly approaching, we all find ourselves looking for meaningful gifts for our family and friends.
The fairly traded items offered through Lutheran World Relief give everyone the opportunity to view and acquire beautifully handcrafted pieces from around the world.

Irish singer performs tonight at Gilroy church
Gilroy – Audrey Kavanagh will sing Irish folk songs at the Gilroy United Methodist Church as part of the Friday Night Music Series at 7:15pm tonight.
This free concert is the last of a series. She has performed for the South Valley Civic Theater in “Jesus Christ Superstar” as Mary Magdelene and in “Some Enchanted Evening.” She also has toured the U.S. and appeared in “Phantom of the Opera,” and with the San francisco Lyric Opera as Anina in “La Traviata.”
She played the lead in many musicals in Ireland before immigrating to the U.S.
ICF scholarship breakfast Sunday at St. Mary Hall
Gilroy – The Italian Catholic Federation branch 28, will sponsor their semi-annual scholarship breakfast of pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice, milk and coffee, Sunday at St. Mary Hall, 11 First St.
Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 11:30am. Donations are $5 adults and $3 children 12 and younger. All proceeds go to local scholarships.
