Dear Editor,

It is time for a simple reality check. Neither left or right wing can find fault with the facts history has presented relating to the current debates the Michael Moore’s are presenting these days.

There were 39 combat related US deaths in Iraq during the month of January. In the fair-minded city of Detroit, there were 35 murders during the same month. Question: That’s just one American city that is about as deadly as the entire renegade torn country of Iraq. Where is the outrage for the Oaklands, SFs, LAs, Miamis, New Yorks and … here at home? For “just” those six cities the total gang warfare murders for January 2004 equaled 91 or twice the number killed in Iraq.

When some claim President Bush shouldn’t have started this war saying “they never attacked us” – consider how the following events can be explained in contrast?

Franklin Roosevelt led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us: Japan did. From

1941-1945, 450,000 American lives were lost.

Truman finished that war and started one in North Korea, which never attacked us. That war lasted three years, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,334 per year or 1,527 per month.

John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Did Vietnam ever attack us? Johnson continued it from 1965-1975, 58,000 military lives were lost for an average of 483 per month.

Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, they never attacked us. Clinton started a policing action in Somalia without UN consent, they never attacked us either. Plus Clinton was offered Osama bin Laden’s head on a platter, three times, choosing to do nothing.

Osama’s organization has acknowledged attacking us on five occasions. In the two years since the terrorist attack (and first attack under President Bush’s watch), Bush has: crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, liberated two countries from their fellow tyrants, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran and North Korea without firing a shot, captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people, captured a multiple of al-Qaida’s innermost lieutenants, quashed nine al-Qaida combat cells worldwide …

The left wing camp complains about how long the Iraqi War is taking. It took less time to initially control Iraq, than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound (that was a 51 day operation to control 21,000 square feet vs. 270,100 square miles). We’ve been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hilary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records (that was three years and two months and she knew where they were). It took less time for the US military to take the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick (that was 11 hours). It took less time to occupy Iraq than it took to re-recount the votes in Florida!

As the Monday morning quarterback, water cooler debates rant and rave, count to three before speaking by auditing your next Michael M… statement with the aforementioned facts and statistics to determine if it’s appropriate to begin that utterance.
