Dear Editor,

Congratulations to St. Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy as the clients and staff will now be enjoying Fair Trade coffee from Equal Exchange. St. Louise is a part of the Daughters of Charity Health System and this change in coffee service directly reflects the mission of the hospital – to serve the poor and practice the values of respect, compassion, and justice in our world.

Fair Trade is a set of economic principles which challenges us to look at our consumer spending and how it affects people’s lives around the world. The goal of Fair Trade is to build sustainable communities in the developing world through equitable trading relationships that yield an enhanced quality of life for the millions who live in poverty today. St. Louise will be consuming quality coffee and the producing farmers and their families will enjoy additional income and greater access to health care and education. Way to go St. Louise!
