schools for the 2004-05 school year.

GILROY – Parents have one more week to enroll their children in Gilroy schools for the 2004-05 school year.
Gilroy Unified School District officially welcomes students back with the start of classes on Monday, Aug. 30.
This is the second year that GUSD is registering students at each school site rather than at the district office.
Enrollment packets can be picked up at the schools, or at the district office, located at 7810 Arroyo Circle.
Kindergarten registration for children who will be 5 years old before Dec. 2, 2004 has been under way since March. Parents must complete the enrollment packet, provide proof of immunization and residency verification.
Some grades already filled up at certain schools. As classes fill up, the district will decide where to place students based on enrollment numbers and whether siblings are also attending a particular Gilroy school.
Ascencion Solorsano Middle School is inviting students and parents to a welcome back social to kick off the new school year.
Solorsano’s “Welcome back social” will be held in the multi-purpose room from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24. Teachers and staff will be there to meet and talk to parents and students and parents are invited to get involved in “middle school life.”
Brownell Academy and South Valley middle schools will host orientations that week as well.
South Valley’s will be held Wednesday, Aug. 25 from in the quad, which was renovated this summer. Brownell’s will be Thursday, Aug. 26, in the school gym. Both run from 5 to 7 p.m.
Parents will be invited to complete and turn in a GUSD Emergency card with parent or guardian contact information, including addresses and phone numbers.
Student schedules will be handed out after teachers review the completed emergency cards. Changes to the schedules will not be made at the social. Students were placed in academic classes based on assessments, teacher recommendations, discussion with parents and student choice, for electives.
District nursing staff will be available to answer questions about immunizations or medical conditions that the school should know about. Physical education clothes and locks will be available for purchase and parents will have a chance to sign up for the Parent Club.
Gilroy High School students will not have an orientation this fall, due to the construction at the school. Schedules should be arriving in mailboxes next week.
