GILROY – The Slammers entered the seventh inning of Wednesday’s Men’s Winter DD League game on the short end of an 11-9 score with the G-Men, with the league leadership on the line.
An infield error, an infield hit by Fausto Padilla and a long home run to right-center by Kurt Gitmed turned the game at Las Animas Park around for the 3-0 Slammers, keeping a one-half game lead in the standings with a 12-11 edging of the G-Men.
Padilla was the sparkplug for the Slammer offense, going 4-for-4 and scoring a team-high three runs. Ben Torres went 3-for-3 and Gitmed added a two-run home run to the Slammer mix in the first frame.
Rick Duyao was the top G-Men batter with four singles. Paul Gutierrez managed three hits, Nate Leyva a two-run single for the losers.
The Boyz moved to 2-1 in DD play with a 21-6 victory over Claddagh Brew Crew.
Ray Bautista, Joe Ojeda and Vince Nino each went 4-for-4 with a home run for the Boyz. Pete Lira went 4-for-4 and scored four Boyz runs. Lee Liberatore went 3-for-3 and Mike Keith drove in three runs for Claddagh.
Happy Dog Pizza Company is 2-0 in second place after a forfeit win over Team Hair FX.
The Playaz are unbeaten midway through the eight-game Men’s Winter C League schedule after a 13-11 squeaker over Team Bud Wednesday at Christmas Hill Park.
The 4-0 Playaz erased an 8-6 deficit with six runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Daniel DeLeon. Sammy DeLeon went 3-for-3, Eddie Vargas 3-for-4 for the Playaz. Brock Prather keyed the Team Bud offense with a single, triple and home run.
D. A. Wolfe Construction improved to 3-1 by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure a 10-8 decision over In The Zone.
Benny Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly for an 8-8 score and Junior Gutierrez and Marco Lopez followed with RBI-singles to complete the rally. Lopez (4-for-4) and Bobby Regianni each homered for the winners. Kyle Thornton went 3-for-3 for In The Zone.
Dee’z Nutz pushed across three runs in the top of the eighth inning to nudge State Farm Insurance 11-8. Hits by Gabriel Villegas and Guillermo Gamboa produced one run in the Dee’z seventh to force the extra inning. Sean Subia paced the Dee’z offense with three hits. Jade Garcia and Josh Torres each struck for three hits for State Farm.
