Gilroy – City police are looking for a woman who entered a stranger’s unlocked apartment in broad daylight and swiped a wallet as a resident emerged from the shower.

The burglary took place around noon Tuesday at an 8500 Wren Avenue apartment building. The female resident, who lives in the apartment with her husband, confronted the burglar upon leaving the shower, police said. The burglar then ran outside and drove away in a light blue 1990s-era station wagon with no rear license plate. The front plate, from California, may have had a number similar to SEU354.

“It looks pretty clear the suspect thought no one was home,” police Sgt. John Sheedy said.

Police described the thief as Hispanic with dark hair, 5 feet 3 inches tall and about 140 pounds. She was reportedly wearing a green halter top with denim shorts and carrying a large black shoulder bag.

The wallet, made of black leather, belonged to the female resident’s husband.

It contained his identification, Social Security Card and credit cards, police reported.

Police ask anyone with information about this case to call them at 846-0350.
