Gilroy Police arrested four boys, aged 14 and 15, for setting off illegal fireworks that started the Sunday Bally fire, which scorched more than 100 acres of hills above Eagle Ridge before being contained.Â
Police said the boys ignited the firecrackers on a hillside near 1900 Ballybunion Court and they tried to put out the fire they accidentally set.
The juveniles were issued a Juvenile Contact Report for unlawfully setting a fire and were released to the custody of their parents.
The case has been sent to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Probation Department for review and prosecution.
Hundreds of firefighters spent three days fighting the blaze. No homes or lives were lost, but one fireman was hurt when he fell 40 feet down a steep ravine.
