Christopher's Head Coach Tim Pierleoni talks to the team about how well they did during their season after their Central Coast section quarterfinal game Friday at Gilroy High School.

GILROY — Christopher’s head football coach Tim Pierleoni has been to the Silicon Valley Youth Classic before, but only as an assistant.
This time, Pierleoni gets to run the show as he was named the head coach of the South squad at the 40th Annual Charlie Wedemeyer High School All-Star Football Game.
“It’s a great honor to be included on the list of some of the coaches that have coached that game before,” said Pierleoni, who was an assistant at 2011 and 1997 games.
While the game is still four months away, preparations have already began. Pierleoni attended a manager’s meeting on Tuesday where he received his list of players to build his roster from. At least one athlete from each school in the South Valley — including Christopher, Gilroy, Live Oak and Sobrato — will be selected for the game. Rosters for each squad are expected to be complete by the end of the month.
While he may not know his players yet, Pierleoni already has his coaching staff in order. He will be accompanied by Christopher’s Craig Martin, Aaron Bembry and Larry Murphy as well as Gilroy head coach Brian Boyd who will be the running back coach and Darius Alexander-Jones who will coach the offensive line. Pierleoni has also asked Greg Garcia to join his staff as well as his personal mentor Bill Perkins who will come down from Bend, Ore. for the game.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun getting these guys together,” Pierleoni said.
The game will be played July 23 at San Jose City College.
