The Gilroy/Morgan Hill area has about a 40 percent chance of light showers late Wednesday night and Thursday morning, and it would be great if that forecast panned out since it’s been like the Mojave desert around here lately.
It’s possible South County could get two-tenths of an inch of precipitation, according to Meteorologist Will Pi with the National Weather Service in Monterey.
“We’re expecting just mostly cloudy and will get a chance of rain late Wednesday night and Thursday morning,” he confirmed Tuesday. “Hopefully there will be more down the road.”
In what meteorologists are calling the “driest year on record” for California, Gilroy has only seen 1.26 inches of rain during the current season, which began July 1 and stretches through June 30, according to Pi. That’s about 10 percent of normal levels for this area, where the average is roughly 11 inches, Pi added.
In 2013, Santa Clara County and 13 other counties were declared drought disaster areas, according to Deputy Agriculture Commissioner Eric Wylde for Santa Clara County.
