The California Highway Patrol’s Start Smart program—a driver safety education class for new and future licensed teenage drivers between the ages of 15-19 and their parents/guardians—could save your child’s life.
The two-hour safety class is scheduled for 5 p.m. June 11 at the CHP Hollister-Gilroy Area Office (740 Renz Lane, Gilroy).
CHP officers will discuss collision avoidance techniques, collision causing elements, driver/parent responsibilities and seat belt restraints. Parents who lost children in fatal collisions and officers who investigated them will give testimonials as well.
Teen drivers, who make up four percent of the state’s licensed drivers, are found at fault in 66 percent of all fatal collisions that they are involved in, according to the CHP. The leading cause of death for Americans 15-20 years old is motor vehicle collisions.
