While serving as a missionary overseas, Pam Tebow experienced pregnancy complications and was told to abort.
Instead, she prayed with a group of missionaries and decided to carry the baby to term—and the little baby went on to become Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow.
Among those praying with her was Mike Paddy, now a pastor at South Valley Community Church in Gilroy. The two will meet again for the first time in more than 25 years in Gilroy, when Pam will deliver the main speech at the Life Advocate Breakfast fundraiser in Gilroy.
“Certainly, it was a surprise that she’d be willing to come. She travels around the country and tells her story,” said Mark Turner, board member for the Life Advocates board of directors. “We were pleasantly surprised and excited to know that she would be attending.”
Life Advocates provides “ongoing, non-judgmental support and helpful resources” to women in Santa Clara County dealing with unexpected pregnancies, according to its website. The nonprofit provides free self-administered pregnancy tests, connects young Santa Clara County women with local resources and provides counseling, said Tammy Jennings, executive director for Life Advocates.
The Family Community Church in San Jose recently gave the nonprofit an RV that is being converted into a medical unit with an ultrasound machine. Donations given at the breakfast will go toward purchasing the ultrasound machine, getting the nonprofit a medical clinic license and paying for a registered nurse to administer ultrasounds.
The nonprofit has already collected 150 RSVPs for the breakfast event, and they expect an audience of between 200 and 300 people by the time Pam Tebow speaks Saturday, April 12, Jennings said.
Attendees are asked to give a one-time donation or monthly support in the amounts of $50, $100 or $200.
