GILROY – A man living in unincorporated Gilroy, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a local child, will be arraigned in San Martin this afternoon.
Pablo Enrique Castillo, 23, was arrested by Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies Friday evening after they seized at least one home video tape from his home that showed a naked girl under the age of 14.
If convicted for the multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14 years old, Castillo could face life in prison. He is currently in county jail with $1 million bail.
“All I want to say is that we saw a nude child (on the video),” said sheriff’s department Detective Sgt. Pete Contreras, the arresting officer in the case. “The charge of sexual assault should basically say everything.”
The relationship between the young girl in the video tape and Castillo would not be revealed, but the sheriff’s department has been in contact with the girl and her family, Contreras said.
At this time, it is not known whether the girl in the video is Castillo’s only victim, but Contreras said it’s not likely.
“All we have at this point is one victim, but with pedophiles it is usual more than one,” said Contreras, who would not release the address of Castillo’s home or the victim’s exact age for “various reasons.”
“We are now asking the public for their help if they may know any other victims of this man,” he said.
Authorities were tipped off about the alleged assault last week when a co-worker of Castillo’s notified the Hollister Police Department that Castillo might be involved in child pornography.
The co-worker told police that Castillo had solicited him to purchase a videotape of Castillo and a minor child in various sexual acts for an unspecified price.
“Initially (Castillo) had made some sexual comments, but then last week he showed the co-worker the video tape of a young, naked female,” Contreras said. “When we got the information we responded to (Castillo’s) residence. He cooperated, and we confiscated the evidence.”
Castillo was not an employee of the same company as the man who turned him into authorities, but was working with him as a consultant of some type, Contreras said. Police are not releasing the name of Castillo’s employer or type of business.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department is asking anyone with information relevant to this case or about Castillo to call 808-4500, and ask for Contreras, Sgt. Noah Brommeland or Guy Kuyat.
