Morgan Hill – A 19-year-old Morgan Hill man was arrested Thursday after police officers, with the help of neighbors, caught up with him after he robbed the home of a Morgan Hill woman, stealing about 60 pounds of coins, police said.

Michael Anthony Espinoza Jr., was booked into county jail on a felony charge of burglary, according to MHPD Lt. Terrie Booten.

Officers were assisted by descriptions of Espinoza by neighbors, Booten said. He was first sighted jumping over a fence in the 1100 block of Llagas Road in northwest Morgan Hill at 10:34am and was observed dragging a heavy bag. He was later seen near the intersection of Llagas Road and Hale Avenue, but without the bag.

He was apprehended by officers who later spoke with a man who told them his mother’s house was burglarized, and a 5-gallon jug containing $400 to $500 in coins was stolen from the house.

An empty 5-gallon-jug was located near the victim’s house, and the bag containing the coins was found in the area of Llagas Road and Enderson Court.

Officers were able to match footprints in the area to the tennis shoes Espinoza was wearing, Booten said.

Booten praised the witnessed for their efforts in providing police with the necessary information to arrest the suspect.

“Staying involved and looking out for your neighbors is key to preventing crime and capturing those responsible,” she said.
