A Morgan Hill man accused of stabbing and robbing a local resident downtown will appear in Santa Clara County Superior Court Wednesday.
Anthony Gonzalez, 27, of Morgan Hill was involved in an Oct. 17 incident at the intersection of Wright and Del Monte avenues, in which he robbed a Morgan Hill man after stabbing him in the stomach, according to police.
He was arrested Oct. 22 after a police investigation connected him to the crime and officers saw him walking down the street in Morgan Hill. Police said he led them on a brief foot chase before he was apprehended.
The 8:30 a.m. hearing at the San Martin Courthouse will likely be continued, according to Santa Clara County District Attorney’s spokeswoman Amy Cornell.
Gonzalez, who is charged with second degree robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, was scheduled to enter a plea Oct. 31, but the hearing was delayed because he was appointed a new attorney.
Deputy D.A. Cindy Hendrickson, who is prosecuting the case for the state, said Gonzalez inflicted a “very serious injury.” She said the investigation is still ongoing and “other details are emerging.”
Gonzalez remains in custody in lieu of $250,000 bail.
